Predominantly from Kano, Katsina and Jigawa State, these Ram sellers arrive in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja few weeks before Sallah(Eid al-Adha) festivities to meet market demands for Rams within the city. The Ram sellers after securing space open up the market for business. Business runs from first light in the morning down to the last light of day, and even longer as Sallah day approaches.
This market also serves as their home for the entirety of their stay in Abuja, until after Sallah day, when they pack up to head up North, leaving the space owners with a fee of N500 on each Ram sold.
Cinikin Raguna by Abdulsalam Khalid is a photo-story that explores the activities of Ram sellers for a few hours in a day, ahead of Sallah in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja.
Cinikin Raguna translates to Ram Trade in Hausa language.
