TECNO Mobile released its latest flagship device – the Phantom 9 last month in Lagos. Since then, the phone has caught a lot of attention – from the simple and minimalistic design the brand has decided to adopt to a recommended retail price of N77,000, which quite frankly came as a surprise, given where TECNO has come from with the Phantom series and the fact that it is their latest flagship device.

There, you have it! A pretty impressive spec sheet, especially considering the price point. Does the Phantom 9 feel legit at hand? Yes! It absolutely does. With the pure minimalistic design and how incredibly lightweight it is, the Phantom 9 checks all the boxes in the aesthetics department. You will certainly feel good holding and rocking this one, the follow-come-case is also a thing of beauty.
The AMOLED display is also something I really love about the Phantom 9 seeing that it is a huge improvement from the IPS LCD we had on the predecessor device, the Phantom 8. The AMOLED display combined with the size of the phone really makes it ideal for larger and higher definition displays with a lot of pixels that even under direct sunlight, you can still view what is displayed on the device.
The In-Display Fingerprint scanner on the Phantom 9 is also a worthy mention. It is 2019, and TECNO shows that!
Talk about battery life, the Phantom 9 packs a 3500 mAh which I think might have been understated on the spec sheet, given how much it performs in real life. I will give it 4 out of 5 ratings here.
To my favorite part, the camera!
This is where I am most excited about and I can tell you that the Phantom 9 performs really good here. Not excellent but really good. The ultra-wide-angle was a great addition to the camera set up but unfortunately, you lose some pixels when shooting in this mode. Nonetheless, I really think it’s a good option to have when shooting a variety of landscapes shots. The main camera focuses on offering much more intelligent photography, as it comes with an upgraded AI Auto Scene Detection and AI HDR system. The other secondary AI Bokeh camera works well in good light and especially when shooting inanimate subjects. The Phantom 9 would be a perfect fit for the everyday person who is just looking to shoot random and mundane things because you won’t have to worry much about editing as the AI of the camera always aim for producing accurate colors and sharpness.
These are my first impressions of the TECNO Phantom 9. I am currently working on a full camera test video, Subscribe to my YouTube channel HERE to catch that.
